July 2019

Happy July! As usual I’m feeling kind of perplexed as to how the year has sped by so fast and what I’ve actually been doing over the last few months, and I’m very much looking forward to the end of winter at some point. It’s been freezing cold in Canterbury, but quite lacking in snow so far. As I write I’m getting ready to head up to Auckland for our Board meeting. It’ll be nice to ditch the puffer jacket and gloves for a couple of days!

Conference Quote Competition

It was great to see such a good response to our quote competition. Thanks to everyone who submitted a quote on one of our social channels or who participated in voting. Special thanks to Katie, Anja, and Kaye for their organisation of this competition. I can’t wait to get my hands on our conference notebook this year, showcasing our favourite quote.

Workshops and Webinars

In August, we bring you Jay Stone’s “Creating presentations that connect” to Auckland and Wellington. Jay comes highly recommended and has presented on this subject quite a few years ago, so if you need to give presentations regularly or even just now and then, this is definitely a workshop to sign up for.

Remember that you don’t have to be a TechCommNZ member to register for a workshop or webinar; it just costs more. So feel free to forward the email or share the link widely. The more the merrier!

We have two more workshops planned for 2019. These will be run the day following the conference and are presented by Doug Kim and Shelly Davies. Don’t miss the opportunity to work with these two. Conference workshops are $250 for a half-day and are held at the same venue as the conference (Trinity Wharf Hotel).

Wellington Branch

I’m delighted to announce that we have a new Wellington Branch Coordinator, Megan Bennett. Megan’s been a member for over four years and I know the branch will be in capable hands.

The next Wellington branch event is on 8th August, 5.30pm at Write’s office on Lambton Quay. Thank you to Write Limited for providing a venue for this.

ITx Rutherford Conference

Some of you might remember that TechCommNZ participated in the very successful (and huge) ITx conference in Wellington last July. Well this year ITx is back, over two days in Nelson.

ITx is the conference of the Institute of Information Technology Professionals (ITP) who are affiliates of TechCommNZ. That means ITP members can attend our events at member rates and TechCommNZ members can attend ITP events at their member rate.

TechCommNZ Conference 2019: Sustainable Content

As always, I’d like to remind you about our conference. And also to give a huge shout out to Kaye Churches, our wonderful conference organiser. Please make Kaye happy and get your registration in soon. I’m really looking forward to the conference this year. We’ve got top notch speakers, a really interesting set of presentations and a stunning high class venue. If you need a reminder of why you should come along, check out our website.

Membership Renewal

Last but not least – don't forget to renew your membership! Members should have received an invoice by email this week. If you haven't, you can renew via your Dashboard on our website. There are tons of benefits for our members, so make sure you don't miss out!

That’s all from me this month. See ya next time!
