Our shared journal has a name!

Thanks to everyone who voted in our survey to choose a name for the journal we’ll be sharing with our overseas partner organisations, the Australian Society for Technical Communication (ASTC) and the Institute of Scientific and Technical Communicators (ISTC).

It’s official – we’re pleased to introduce the International Journal of Technical Communication.

Planning is underway to choose the content to fill a pilot issue.

Enter the Plain Language Awards

Are you planning on entering the Plain Language Awards this year? We hope so!

Two of our members entered last year, and we were so proud to see them both named as finalists! They’ve kindly shared their thoughts on the awards experience, and the awesome benefits that recognition had for them. Thank you, Mercedes and Sarah!

“The Plain Language Awards provided a wonderful opportunity for me to dive deeper into the world of technical writing. I'm grateful for the nomination as a finalist, which not only boosted my credibility at work but also allowed me to connect with like-minded writers at the ceremony. Another highlight was receiving insightful feedback from the judges, which I found truly valuable. I look forward to applying their advice to my projects throughout this coming year.”

Mercedes Glover

“I really enjoyed attending the Plain Language Awards in 2023 as a finalist. Entering the awards really made me think about the way I write, what the purpose of my writing is, who it will impact, and how I could make it even better. The awards ceremony itself was a lovely occasion where all attendees, regardless of the result, were celebrated and valued, and plain language itself was recognised and celebrated. It was inspiring and affirming to see all the great mahi being done in this area, and to hear the stories of the positive impact good plain language use can have. It was also really valuable to receive feedback on my work and ideas for improvement a few weeks after the awards.”
