Trimble are looking for a Technical Writer to not only bring their technical expertise to the team but also bring a bit of flare, style and strong relationship building skills to the already well-established team within the CTCT division.

The CTCT division (a joint venture between Trimble and Caterpillar) develops positioning and control products for earth-moving and paving machines in the construction and mining industries. These products are used in a range of applications where the operator of the machine benefits from having accurate horizontal and vertical guidance.
You will enjoy working on collaborative style product development with UI design & training teams.

Technical communications/documentation are what you do best whilst having knowledge of industry standard tools and practices and a succinct communication style suitable for digital/mobile platforms.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Generation of technical content and user assistance in a variety of forms, including PDF, HTML, XML, and video for both print and digital communication
  • Technical editing including review and proofing of content created by other team members
  • Organise material and complete writing assignment according to set standards regarding order, clarity, conciseness, style, and terminology
  • Maintain records and files of work and revisions
  • Analyse developments in specific field to determine need for revisions in previously published materials and development of new material
  • Management and tracking of content throughout the process, including translation
  • Coordination with other members of the group and other (international) groups within Trimble
  • Interview production and engineering teams and read journals and other material to become familiar with product technologies and production methods
  • Observe production, developmental, and experimental activities to determine operating procedure and detail
  • Study drawings, specifications, mockups, and product samples to integrate and delineate technology, operating procedure, and production sequence and detail
  • Work with UX designers to select and edit photographs, drawings, sketches, diagrams, and charts to illustrate material
  • Publish final documentation, both part and entire guides, develop style guides and use relevant tools.

Skills & Experience Required:

  • Proven track record in technical writing, editing and proof reading skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with high attention to detail
  • Familiar with basic web design concepts, comfortable with basic HTML markup, able to edit and enter HTML code autonomously from developers
  • Experience with version control software and version control best practices
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a broad spectrum of subject matter experts, from developers to end-users
  • Ability to work well under pressure using effective time management skills
  • Ability to work proactively and speak up when inefficiencies exist
  • Experience documenting for a highly technical and complex product
  • Flexible approach to working in a changing environment
  • Ability to work as part of a collaborative team
  • Excellent file management practices
  • Eye for continuous improvement
  • Experience with documentation in digital products.

Experience in:

  • html/html5
  • Madcap Flare
  • Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Adobe Acrobat, InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop and Premier a plus
