The role

The successful applicant will report to the current technical communicator. The technical communicators are part of the Support, not the Development team. This reflects the clear customer focus of the help documentation. There is a wide variety of outputs including videos, printed guides, online help, online training courses, release notes and more. The technical communicators also maintain the content of the company web site.

Key responsibilities

The key responsibilities of the technical communicator will include the following:

  • creation and maintenance of online help
  • creation and maintenance of help video content
  • creation and maintenance of online self-paced courses
  • creation of training material in paper and other formats
  • creation of presentations for conference presenters
  • web site maintenance.

Experience, skill set and attitude

The mind-set and attitude of the successful applicant will be more relevant than the skill set that they bring to the role. Tools and skills can be taught, unlike commitment to excellence, a genuine desire to help and a collaborative work ethic.
The successful applicant will have 2+ years technical communication experience documenting software as well as proficiency in the following:

  • spoken and written English
  • video creation and editing software
  • CSS and HTML5
  • Wordpress web sites
  • a HAT (Help Authoring Tool) - such as Author-it
  • working to deadlines
  • investigating complicated software and making its use simple for the end users.
