Writing: it can be simple, concise, to the point, and elegant. Or it can be unnecessarily complex, tortured, illogical and even misleading. Do you know the difference?

Can you make the difference?

If you’ve got a talent for translating geekspeak into simple, understandable, usable and comprehensive documents, we want to hear from you.

We’re a highly successful software company with customers in 25 countries, and offices in New Zealand, USA, Australia and Europe. We’ve been in the business for over three decades, and we’re still growing. We’re looking for talented people to join our team at the core of the business, our development hub in East Auckland.

We have a fantastic working environment with all the mod cons: free employee parking, breakout areas with pay TV, and games tables and more. There’s even multiple ways to make the coffee of your choice. Our funded social club puts on diverse social and cultural activities. We’re supported by a progressive, hands-on local management team that’s involved, accessible and actively fosters work / life balance. There are other perks, like company funded health insurance and income protection. But most important, across all our teams we have a culture of help, support and continuous improvement for every single employee, and we’re very proud of that.

We’re currently looking for an Intermediate or Senior Technical Writer.

These skills and experience are essential:

  • Superlative expertise in written English. Your grammar and syntax should be excellent, and you should be able to adapt your writing style to the needs of different publications. The documents you write will be read by technical experts configuring large installations – and there are over 500 of them worldwide.
  • Five or more years’ experience in a technical writing role, preferably with a software company. This means that you’re well versed in structuring, writing and editing documents like release notices, installation and user guides, reference guides; and you have the ability to work independently and engage with SMEs to supplement your source information.
  • Knowledge of information mapping and single-sourcing on documentation platforms like MadCap Flare, Adobe RoboHelp or Author-it.
  • Knowledge of software environments – Windows, Linux, command line interfaces, internet browsers.
  • Knowledge of IT concepts – SQL, networking, HTML coding and version control.

These would also be helpful:

  • Software programming or scripting experience.
  • API documentation experience.
  • Graphic, diagramming, image and capture editing skills.

It won’t be easy. We’ll test you on your writing and software skills before and during a full day of interviews. But if you’re up to the challenge, it will be rewarding. View our website at http://www.kiwiplan.com.

The next step is up to you!
