The CTCT division (a joint venture between Trimble and Caterpillar) develops positioning and control products for earthmoving and paving machines in the construction and mining industries. These products are used in a range of applications where the operator of the machine benefits from having accurate horizontal and vertical guidance. As CTCT systems have been in the market for many years, they are looking for a training and documentation re-fresh.

The new role of Training and Technical Documentation Manager is responsible for leading the development of this change to a multimodal, multifaceted, and innovative solution.This will require you to dive into a complex ecosystem of training and documentation and position the function to positively impact velocity and change.

An important part of this role is managing the communication between CTCT and multiple groups within both Cat and Trimble, including marketing and sales, product support, user experience, and service groups. Communication is critical to ensure programmes complement and support the parent objectives.

Key responsibilities

  • Utilise novel documentation and training delivery strategies to develop, deliver and support a world class training and documentation solution.
  • Manage the development, publishing and distribution of software and hardware product documentation, such as overviews, user guides, installation manuals, implementation guides, online help, technical reference information, product update bulletins, glossaries, etc.
  • Identify and assess future and current training needs; manage the development, and execution of training.
  • Monitor effectiveness of tools and processes for delivering documentation and training.
  • Monitor budget for documentation and training projects and other functional OPEX.
  • Provide day-to-day guidance, coaching, and support to training and documentation teams.
  • Develop detail-level work plans, schedules, estimates, resource and budget requirements. Monitor progress, conducts status meetings, and addresses problems or delays.
  • Coordinate integration of project plans, goals, content, media and tools across various types of product documentation and training.
  • Collaborates with design and architecture teams to deliver an end to end customer experience with high continuity.
  • Develop a team environment that values diversity and uses various individual’s strengths to the benefit of the team.
  • Coordinate translation of training and documentation materials for over 25+ languages.

Key competencies

  • Technology - familiarity with the range of design and communication tools.The Training and Documentation team use; PC software packages such as Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, Pagemaker, Framemaker, and/or Flare documentation tools.
  • Relationship Management - work effectively with a global team and effectively promote change.
  • Influence – effectively promote change within the stakeholder groups
  • Project Management – planning and delivery to programme, accurate and timely reporting
  • Communication - strong verbal and written skills, (reasonable technical writing).
  • Commercial – consideration of IP, financial management, markets relative to Training and Documentation

Education and experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher
  • Previous leadership experience
  • Previous project management experience
  • 5+ years cumulative experience gaining exposure to technical writing/documentation and training functions, system development and execution utilising contemporary UX methodologies and relevant information technology applications
  • Industry & Products - affinity with multi-disciplined engineered solutions to markets
  • Global company exposure
