Christchurch Branch Event: Open to Learning - Difficult Conversations
In our profession, there are plenty of times when it's necessary to have conversations we're tempted to dodge. It's not always easy to review others' work and give feedback that may not be well received. And any of us might, occasionally, need to have a frank and honest exchange about anything – from our salary to the parlous state of the shared kitchen – without suffering anxious, sleepless nights or trampling over a usually-OK working relationship.
As a school principal, Phil Harding found that setting up and having difficult conversations was an inevitable part of principalship. Phil has some advice to offer on the importance of striking the right balance between brave and honest leadership, while protecting and even strengthening relationships.
