Auckland Branch Event - Editing for technical communicators, without all the boring grammar stuff

Whether you’re a dedicated editor or not, if you’re a technical communicator, you’ll end up editing other people’s writing—and your own. And you need to know how to do that as effectively and efficiently as you can.

I won’t go too much into the nuts and bolts of grammar, because, let’s be honest, although it’s essential, it’s kinda boring and tends to inflame passions (everyone’s got a pet peeve or a fake rule they hold onto). Instead, I’ll give you some tips and strategies for focusing on the most important stuff and getting the job done.

We’ll discuss:

  • The editing process (and how to define one that suits your company)
  • Hard skills you’ll need (and how to come by them)
  • Soft skills you’ll need (and how it’s harder to come by these)
  • The main stuff to look for when you’re decimating editing someone else’s writing
  • Some tips and tricks (for example, how to kill ‘zombies’ in your writing)
  • Editing resources (including a couple of entertaining ones)

Look forward to meeting you and talking shop afterwards!
