From the President

September 2022

Katie is smiling and wearing her long brown hair down - she's wearing a black dress with a red flower patternWell, I can’t go jumping into a President’s report without first talking about the conference!

It’s been so encouraging to hear how eager you all are to reconnect (sorry for the pun, I couldn’t resist!)

By now you will have received our email all about (Re)Connect 2022 – but if you haven’t, check it out on our website.

We’ve got a fantastic lineup of presenters this year and two very cool workshops on Saturday morning. I’m delighted to welcome back some familiar faces from past conferences, and to welcome some new faces presenting for the first time. Registration is just $600 + GST for both days, and it promises to be worth every cent! I can’t wait to see you there!

There will also be a buffet style dinner on Thursday night complete with entertainment by Ara’s student jazz band!

We’ll also be holding the AGM at the conference, so watch for the agenda in your inbox. Since it's been so long since we’ve got together, we want to take this opportunity to check in with you about how TechCommNZ is treating you and what you’d like to see from us in the next year.

Tech Communications workforce and Toi Mai Board seeking expressions of interest

I’m delighted to report on a fantastic opportunity this quarter: the Toi Mai board are looking for new members. Toi Mai is the Ohu Ahumahi - Workforce Development Council for the creative, cultural, recreation and technology sectors.

Find out more about Toi Mai

They’re all about re-writing education standards for the workforce, so it is a chance for a technical writer to put forward the merits of Plain Language, be a champion for usability and shape tech comm training courses to the needs of our industry.

This is your chance to have a long-standing impact on our industry, while making valuable contacts in a wide range of interesting industries and vocations. It’s a great opportunity and I’d love to see you thrive in the role!

Welcome to our student board member: Andrew Bright

Andrew is currently studying the first year of his GCID at Ara. Having recently moved to Christchurch, he's looking to explore Information Design and hopes the student board role will help him find connections in our industry.

We're delighted to have him on board! (Pun absolutely intended)

See you all in October!

Katie
