From the President
Hi everyone. I hope you’re enjoying the year and not feeling too dismayed at the way it seems to slide past so quickly. I’m rather pleased to see the end of July, which is usually so cold, and start looking forward to spring. Don’t worry, give it a few months and I’ll be moaning about the hot weather, the flies, and the kids not wanting to go to bed because it’s too light!
I hope you enjoyed all the updates that appeared on social media from ITx 2018. In particular the live streaming of Steve Moss receiving the Excellence in Technical Communication award. We are all so proud of Steve and he absolutely deserved to win. Steve’s acceptance speech blew the crowd away and I was most impressed by our Board’s excellent performances on the dancefloor at the awards dinner. More on ITx in my other report.
I really have only two messages this month. And they’re both equally important.
Renew now!
July was the month renewals went out so hopefully you’re all paid up for another year, but if not, please pay up now. TechCommNZ is a fantastic organisation and we do great work for our members and our profession, but we need funds to keep operating.
What do you get for your membership? For a start, preferential rates for our workshops, webinars, and meetings (as well as reduced rates for some partner events too), access to the yearly salary survey, and the right to use the TechCommNZ Member logo in your signature/LinkedIn profile.
If you haven’t received a renewal reminder of you’re not sure what’s happening with your members, or you want to change, log in to the website click on your name in the banner, and choose membership. Alternatively, contact our Business Manager, Roy McKone.
Vote at the AGM!
Our AGM date is set for 23 September, in Christchurch. Check out the details on our Events page. While we’d really love to see you there in person, there will be the option to attend remotely.
The AGM is your chance to vote for the Board you want and also to put your hand up to support our organisation. The good news is that most of the Board have indicated they are happy to hang around for another year (so it’s probably reasonably ‘safe’ to attend). Also, there will be cake.
I really look forward to seeing a big crowd of you there so keep an eye out for more details to follow.
That’s all from me this month!
Ka Kite
