The opportunity

Tait has an exciting opportunity in our Christchurch head office for a Technical Writer/Illustrator to join our Global Services team on a permanent basis.

About the role

In this role, you will be responsible for creating and maintaining documentation for customer systems, and for global processes related to our Services function. This covers everything from documentation that supports pre-sales activities, through to creating system dossiers and technical drawings that we then provide as part of our delivery of customer systems. This is a crucial role to ensure that our documentation is accurate and shared with the right people, with the right delivery.

The key function of this role is to produce and maintain technical system documentation, which includes:

  • As-built documentation (system dossiers) for system projects to meet Tait and customer requirements
  • Maintaining system documentation through customer lifecycle for managed customers and when systems are augmented
  • Technical drawings including by example, system schematics and wiring diagrams
  • Customer Acceptance Certificates for factory acceptance testing
  • Technical documentation and presentation material for specialist teams within Tait Global Services
  • Documentation of standard system configurations
  • Assisting with formatting and preparing complex system proposals, technical documents, and training materials
  • Clearly communicating technical concepts to both technical and non-technical people.

About you

This position is suited to someone who has a flair for presentation with experience in technical and customer facing documentation, as well as with Computer Aided Technical Drawing. As our Technical Writer/Illustrator, you will be responsible for the creation and maintenance of Customer System Documentation and Global Service Process documentation. Your deliverables will vary from supporting documentation for pre-sales activities through to documentation provided in the delivery of customer systems.

To be successful in the role, you will need to have a keen eye for detail, to be familiar with a range of software packages, and have critical analysis skills to constantly refine and improve process to ensure the quality of documentation. To be suitable for this role, you will have the following skills:

  • Previous experience creating technical and customer facing documentation
  • Experience with Computer Aided Technical Drawing
  • A flair for presentation and attention to detail
  • Some experience of process design (beneficial but not essential)
  • Familiarity with a range of software packages (e.g., MS Office Suite, Visio, Adobe, AutoCAD)
  • Ability to clearly communicate technical concepts to non-technical people.
