About the opportunity

The CTCT division at Trimble Navigation is seeking an experienced Technical Writer to join the User Assistance team. The role involves creating and updating customer-facing user assistance such as installation and software instructions and UI text.

The successful applicant will have experience in technical communications/documentation, proficiency in written and spoken English, a knowledge of industry standard tools and practices, and a succinct communication style suitable for digital/mobile platforms.

As one of our Technical Writers you can expect that you will:

  • Generate and update documentation as part of the User Assistance team:
    • Analyze quarterly product developments to determine the need for creating new material and updating existing material.
    • Generate customer-facing documentation such as user guides, installation guides, task tutorials, troubleshooting guides, and more, in PDF, HTML and XML formats.
    • Perform research, such as interviewing technical experts, reviewing drawings, specifications, mockups, and product samples.
    • Perform technical editing, including reviewing user interface and documentation peer reviews.
    • Follow instructions as this role is highly process driven
    • Work with UX designers to develop illustrations for published material.
  • Coordinate with other members of the group and other (international) groups.
  • Follow established revision and feedback procedures.
  • Support, communicate, reinforce and defend the mission, values and culture of the organization..

System and tools you will be using

  • MadCap Flare
  • HTML/HTML5
  • Google Suite
  • Adobe Acrobat, InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop and Premier
  • Git (source control)

Skills and experience required

The successful applicant will have experience in technical communications/documentation, a knowledge of industry standard tools and practices, and a communication style suitable for digital/mobile platforms.

You will have:

  • Proficient written and verbal English communication skills, with high attention to detail.
  • Proven track record in technical writing, editing and proof-reading skills ideally using MadCap Flare.
  • Previous experience documenting complex hardware and software.
  • Experience with version control software (ideally, Git) and version control best practices.
  • Ability to work proactively and speak up when inefficiencies and inconsistencies exist.
  • Flexible approach to working in an ever-changing environment.
