Technical writer vacancies

Tactics has contract positions available for technical writers in Auckland, Wellington and the South Island. Contract periods range from three months to one year.

Position responsibilities

We’re looking for technical writers who can produce clear, accurate and easy-to-use documentation for our clients. Responsibilities include:

  • Analysing and understanding requirements
  • Business process mapping and facilitation
  • Close collaboration with subject matter experts to capture and document operational policies, processes and procedures
  • Development of system user guides and online help

Skills and attributes

Ideally, you have:

  • Great analytical skills and an open, curious and questioning mind
  • Good interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate with people at all levels of an organisation
  • Demonstrated ability to organise and structure content and write clearly and accurately in plain English
  • Familiarity with Information Mapping® or structured writing principles and techniques (although training would be provided)
  • Excellent organisational and time-management skills and the ability to work to deadlines
  • Experience with Microsoft Office applications, SharePoint, Jira/Confluence or similar

You must be able to travel and spend time at client locations for short periods of time, particularly in the South Island.

Qualifications and experience

We prefer candidates with a tertiary qualification and several years of work experience, ideally in engineering, banking and insurance, manufacturing or IT. While a technical writing qualification is not essential, you must have technical writing experience and be able to provide examples of your writing.
