Using Microsoft Word - Intermediate Level Workshop - Christchurch

Microsoft Word has become the de facto tool for creating a wide variety of documents in many organisations. Most Word users gradually learn how to use the tool by trial and error and may remain blissfully unaware of the enormous range of capabilities of this ubiquitous product.

This workshop is designed to extend your knowledge of Word so that you can use it more easily for a wider range of tasks.

Audience

Excellent for intermediate-level technical communicators and beginner to intermediate level Microsoft Word users.

Prerequisites

  • A working knowledge of Microsoft Word 2007/2010 or 2013.

The workshop

In this workshop, Word specialist, Heather Wickham will take you through a number of Word features that you will find useful for speeding up your work. There will be plenty of hands-on exercises.

Learning outcomes

During the workshop, youll learn:

  • What's new in Word 2013
  • Improve your productivity by learning how to:
    • customise the Quick Access Toolbar
    • customise the ribbon and add commands
    • develop and apply Quick Parts
    • create and use AutoText
    • learn how to use tabs successfully
    • work with Styles
    • use Mail Merge
    • enhance and crop images
    • use section breaks
    • create templates using content controls and restrict formatting
    • edit, track changes and add comments.

About the presenter

Catch-Up Training Principal, Heather Wickham has years of teaching experience both in New Zealand and overseas. Heather has a degree in Information Technology, a Graduate Diploma in Information Design, and a Certificate in Adult Teaching & Learning. In late 2012 she completed a Numeracy and Literacy course through the Manukau Institute of Technology.
