Write for our newsletter

April 2024

We often call for members to write for our newsletter or website. Here, we explain a bit more about what kind of content we mean, who can do it, how, and why.

What kind of content we're looking for

We’re interested in things like:

  • product reviews or recommendations – honest reviews from technical communicators about a product or tool you use to do your job
  • course reviews or recommendations – the pros and cons of a course (or other training) you’ve done recently, and who you’d recommend it to
  • advice on technical communication skills – a special skill, passion or expertise you have that you’d be willing to share your advice on to help upskill others
  • opinion pieces on hot topics in the technical communication world
  • featured technical communicators – we're always on the hunt for people who’d be happy to tell us more about their job as a technical communicator and share their story with our members
  • interesting articles, blogs or resources you’ve come across recently – we can add them to our next Let’s tech communicate article.

We don’t have any specific rules about length or word count – the right amount to get the message across clearly is all you need.

We can help with essential editing if needed (things like proofreading and basic formatting for reading ease and digital accessibility).

Who can write for us

If you’re a member, you can write for us!

It doesn’t matter how long you’ve been a member, how long you’ve been in the technical communication industry, or whether you’ve written and published this kind of content before.

You might not even think of yourself as a technical communicator specifically – we know we have plenty of members who are storytellers, business analysts, product owners, or managers, for example.

We like to represent all perspectives within our network.

Let us know if you’re interested!

Email comms@techcomm.nz and tell us about what you’d like to write, or ask us any questions.

Why you should write for us

There are plenty of great reasons!

  • You’ll be supporting TechCommNZ by helping us create a good variety of information for our members. We appreciate anything you're able to contribute – big or small!
  • You’ll be supporting our community by giving your thoughts and advice on important topics.
  • It's a good way try it out and receive helpful feedback if this is new for you, and it’ll look great on your CV!
  • It’s an opportunity to connect directly with our large member base if you’d like to grow your professional network.
  • It’s a great way to get your work published, and to get recognition for your skills.
  • There are no strings attached – it can be a one-off, if you don’t have time to commit to it regularly.
